YOU CAN STILL BE NICE AND ASK FOR ACCOUNTABILITY | BUT THE ENEMY IS OUT THERE :D

The title of this post might convey that people have to make extra effort to be nice to others but what I wanted to say here is to be super clear that everyone can be as nice as possible and still expect accountability for themselves and from others. Reminding team members of their expectations/responsibilities is what a leader does in sharing the vision and having an alignment with the team. But it is the same leader who should show compassion, empathy and kindness to his/her team all the time. There is no excuse to not being compassionate if you are in a leadership role. But, it is a work in progress for every person especially someone like me to remember all the time that there is life outside work and when there are cracks and gaps in expectations, I shouldn’t get agitated and aggressive. I hope many feel the same way like I do, if you aren’t, keep it up!

Accountability has to be a well defined characteristic and it cannot be measured if teams and leaders don’t have clarity of the role and the expectations from either parties. Some expectations are made up at the last minute and that is where we all struggle and get stressed out. If a manager and his team member are having a 1:1 conversation, without a doubt, either of them should ask the question “Are we both on track on the expectations? Is there anything we need alignment on?” . It’s okay when things are not clear but asking the right question and seeking constant feedback all the time, all the time while holding…
